Wiping Away The Soot

Did you know that SERVPRO of Franklin, Vance & Granville Counties production technicians are specially trained in the best way to clean up your home after a fire?
One technique is dry sponging areas like your ceiling to remove soot! Dry sponges, or "chemical sponges," are made from natural rubber. These sponges safely scoop up and absorb soot and dirt into their pores. Because of the soft surface, dry cleaning sponges are ideal for removing soot and smoke from walls, ceilings and acoustic tiles. The sponge is also ideal for picking up dust and dirt from areas that cannot be cleaned by water or solvents.
Often, when cleaning up from a fire, we are removing soot and smoke residue in order to leave the area prepared for painting during the repairs phase. So, while it might seem like "washing everything" is the right thing to do, cleaning without water serves an important role in getting your home back "Like it never even happened."
