Fire Damage and Odor

One area that SERVPRO of Franklin, Vance and Granville Counties makes sure to address when cleaning up from a fire damage is the odor. Once the area is thoroughly cleaned, our technicians can set up an Ozone Machine in the area.

The ozone generator is used to oxidize organic odors such as smoke, pet odors, mildew, organic pollutants, and more without chemicals. 

A transformer shoots several thousand volts of
electricity through a reactor, causing the atom of a water molecule to change from an O2 molecule to a very unstable O3 molecule. The extra O molecule then attaches itself to a contaminant, actually alternating its structure. The remaining O2 molecule becomes stable once again.

Once the area is fully dry, we remove living things from the containment area (humans, plants, and pets). Setting the unit as high as possible helps since ozone is heavier than air and will fall. When possible, an air mover can be set up to help circulate the ozone. The room/area is sealed off to prevent the ozone from dissipating into areas that do not need to be deodorized. 

Once the area has been deodorized, we ventilate the area thoroughly.
